Stakeholder Interaction Meeting on Millennium Trek Promotion was held at Nepal Tourism Board, Kathmandu on 14th August 2015.
The Interaction Meeting was hosted by Dhoreli Sewa Samaj, Kathmandu in coordination with Nepal Tourism Board. Objective of the interaction meeting was to draw promotion and marketing strategy and programs by bringing government officials, together with other stakeholders including parliamentary members, tourism entrepreneurs, civil society organizations, journalists and development partners. At the outset of the meeting, Dhoreli Sewa Samaj Kathmandu Chairperson Ek Raj Sigdel introduced the Millennium trek. As said, on the very first day of New Millennium 2000, the government of Nepal commissioned a team of experts to carry out a feasibility study of a Trek extending from Dhorphirdi of Tanahun to Majkot of Syangja for tourism development.
According to the study, the route was found feasible for village trekking tourism. Following the study recommendations some ground works for tourism promotion and human resources development have already been initiated. However, as in the other parts of the country, the route got into a trap of insurgency and shadowed from the mainstream tourism development activities in the ensuing years until when the political turmoil came towards stability.
About 80 Km Millennium trek begins from Dulegaunda of Tanahun, which is located some 30 Km east of Pokhara and passes through a multitude of different environmental features, including boulder-stream, river gorges, dense vegetation, beautifully carved terraced fields, myriad of pinnacles and ancient temples.
The five days and six nights long Trek ends at Majkot of Syangja. The route passes through nine village development committees with a total population of about 1, 00,000. The Trek links Dhorphirdi, Firfire and Raipur in Tanahun and Kolma Barahchaur, Rangbhang, Pelkachaur, Banethok Deurali, Majhkot Shivalaya and Manakamana VDCs in Syangja. Every village in the route offers tourists with distinct cultural and natural experiences, which attributes to the uniqueness of the Trek As planned the meeting was attended by about 60 people. Tourism entrepreneurs including Chandra G.T., Bashanta Gautam and Ravi Bhattarai complemented the presentation. The meeting witnessed active participation of Parliamentary Members including Mr. Tuk Raj Sigdel, Mr. Ram Chandra Pokhrel and Ms. Asha Koirala.
Tourism Board Executive Officer Mr. Ramesh Kumar Adhikari expressed commitment that NTB would help promoting and marketing the Millennium Trekking Trail.
Tourism entrepreneurs suggested to further exploit the Millennium Trail with a team of entrepreneurs as an initiation for promoting and marketing the tourism product.
