A proposal for determining Deukuri as the permanent capital of State 5 has been passed in the State Assembly on Tuesday.
Speaker Purna Bahadur Gharti announced that the two-third majority of state assembly determined Deukhuri as the permanent capital of state-5 and Lumbini as its name.
The state 5 on Tuesday formally got its name and permanent capital. In a voting conducted in the State Assembly, 69 votes were cast in favour of Deukhuri while 13 votes against it.
Speaker Gharti shared that 79 votes were cast in favour of naming the state as Lumbini while four votes against it.
Three state assembly members remained neutral over the issue of capital while two members in its naming. Out of 87 members of the state assembly, Speaker Gharti and member Surendra Bahadur Hamal did not participate in voting process.
Minister for Internal Affairs and Law, Kul Prasad KC, on the behalf of the government on October 2 had presented proposal for determining Deukhuri Valley as the permanent capital of State-5 and naming it as Lumbini in the state assembly.
