Kathmandu July 22 . Forty-four laptops brought from Hong Kong by SriLankan Air have gone missing when they arrived in Nepal. It is expected stolen laptops.The plane landed at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on Saturday afternoon carrying charter cargo of SriLankan Air. There were also 125 laptops in it.
The traders had gone to the airport on Tuesday to collect their goods as the goods from the cargo would be quarantined one day due to the Corona pandamic.
According to the source, while checking the luggage by paying the cargo bill of the flight number 603 of SriLankan Air, rims of print paper were found in the box which should have 44 laptops among 125.
Looking at one after the other, they are tensed when they saw bundle of A4 size paper.
Some traders were at the airport before the news broke. A trader told Mirmire that the branded laptops were imported from Hong Kong and brought to Nepal via Colambo. All of them were branded laptops and now its price is Rs 144,000 per laptop.
The laptops were sent from Hong Kong by the supplier as ordered by Nepali traders.
The cargo plane of SriLankan Air stayed in the Sri Lankan capital Colambo for five days as a transit stay. And landed in Kathmandu on Monday. But on Tuesday, the traders who arrived at the airport to pick up the goods found that they had been sent with rims of paper in their laptop boxes.
A trader, who had been waiting for his luggage at the airport since Tuesday morning, said that he found 44 boxes at 10 pm and found paper rims in all of them. He said, “We had ordered a branded laptop. The supplier from Hong Kong checked and sent all the goods, but when we arrived here, the laptop was stolen.”
It is yet to be uncertain whether the goods disappeared during the same period or after arriving in Kathmandu as they were transited to colambo. However, traders suspect that the laptops were stolen during the transit.
A trader said, “We suspect that the goods have been missing for five days in colombo.”
When Mirmireonline tried to understand the matter, Shambhu Marasini, the head of the customs department at Tribhuwan International Airport, said that he could only comment on the missing goods tomorrow.
After finding only paper in place of the laptop, traders even contacted the Sri Lankan embassy.
After they expressed their pain, the embassy contacted SriLankan Air officials and asked the traders to understand. However, the traders said that no information has been received from Sri Lanka so far. They said that they did not go inside to check the luggage and did not know whether there were laptops in the boxes of the other 81 laptops out of 125 or whether they were missing. The market value of the missing laptops is at least one lakh 44 thousand per laptop.
Luggage has been missing from the airport many times before. But it remains to be seen where this laptop disappeared from.The details are expected to come after watching all the CCTV and X-ray reports.
