Kathmandu, March 9: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ananda Prasad Pokhrel on Wednesday left here for the United States of America to extend invitation to UN Secretary General Ban-Ki moon to the International Conference on Buddhism Nepal is hosting in May on the occasion of the 2560th Buddha Jayanti.
The Conference has been scheduled for upcoming May 20-21 in the capital. The Buddha Jayanti falls on May 22 and the government has planned to observe it in a grand manner.
The government is inviting the UN Secretary-General as the special guest to the celebrations.
During his stay in the US, Minister Pokhrel will attend the ‘Global Parliamentarians Forum for Evaluation’ to be held in New York on March 14. The event is expected to focus on the discussions about evaluation policies and sustainable development goals. Minister Pokhrel is the member in the Forum’s executive committee. He will address the event.
He will hand over the invitation letter to the UN Chief on behalf of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Chair of the Buddha Jayanti Main Celebration Committee on March 17.
Besides, the Tourism Minister will take part in an interaction with the Nepali Community in California ( March 11-12), New York ( March 14) and representatives of Nepali organisations ( March 17).
Moreover, he is representing the country in the International Lumbini Development Committee taking place since 2005.
