ISLAMABAD, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) —

At least seven people were killed and a dozen others injured when a suicide blast hit an election office of a lawmaker in Pakistan’s central district of Dera Ghazi Khan on Wednesday, local media reported.

According to the reports, the blast took place at noon in the Tonsa Shareef area of Dera Ghazi Khan in the country’s eastern Punjab province.

District Police Officer Mubashir Meikan said the targeted office belonged to Amjad Farooq Khosa, a member of the National Assembly from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, the ruling party of the country.

The lawmaker’s personal guard told media that Farooq Khosa was not present in the office when the attack happened. Police and rescue teams rushed to the site shortly after the blast was reported.

Hospital sources said at least three of the injured remained in a critical condition. Police have cordoned off the area for investigations. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
