The Supreme Court (SC) has directed the government to issue another classification of information in line with the law citing information classification released four years ago was against law.
A special bench comprising justices Girish Chandra Lal, Deepak Raj Joshi and Govinda Kumar Upadhya issued the order to this effect.
It may be noted that the Unified-CPN (Maoist) leader Dr Baburam Bhatatrai-led government had kept information around 140 areas in secret category.
A committee chaired by Chief Secretary on 12 December 2011 had classified information of different areas as confidential in accordance with the provision of Nepal’s Right to Information Act-2007.
Advocate Kamal Prasad Itani on behalf of Democratic Lawyers Association and legal expert Ram Krishna Timilsina had separately registered rit petitions arguing the classification resulted in by the process was against constitution and law. RSS
